Breaking News • K-Pop Safety & Legal Updates

A Disturbing Breach of Personal Boundaries

The global K-pop community was shaken when BELIFT LAB issued a stern, high-priority legal notice detailing a calculated and malicious privacy violation directed at ENHYPEN member Jay.
In an industry where safety boundaries are constantly tested by intrusive behaviors, this particular case stands out due to the sophisticated social engineering tactics employed by the perpetrator to bypass personal security barriers.

According to the official statement released by BELIFT LAB via Weverse, the ordeal began in June. An unidentified individual systematically targeted Jay’s private mobile line through a deceptive pretext designed to catch the artist off guard. Rather than relying solely on standard boundary-crossing methods, the suspect chose a path of deliberate impersonation.

The Modus Operandi: Impersonation and Deception

The severity of the incident escalated rapidly because of the manipulative framing used during the initial contact. The perpetrator cold-called Jay’s personal phone number and falsely claimed to be an employee of an internet and television installation service center.

To add a veneer of authenticity and disarm the artist’s natural caution, the individual dropped specific references to Jay’s family members and approached him under the guise of handling routine service inquiries. Under this fabricated pretense, the caller requested a callback window and left their own personal contact details, systematically manipulating the situation to extract further personal information.

“When the artist directly checked with his family, it was confirmed that the individual’s claims were false. Despite the artist’s lack of response, the individual continued to harass the artist through persistent, repeated contact.”
Illegal Recordings and Digital Distribution

The situation took an even more malicious turn when the perpetrator began weaponizing the private interactions. BELIFT LAB confirmed that the individual secretly recorded their telephone conversations without Jay’s knowledge or consent.

These illicit audio files were subsequently distributed across multiple digital platforms, including KakaoTalk group chats, public Instagram channels, and live audio broadcasting rooms on X Spaces. The widespread dissemination of private dialogue posed a severe security risk and inflicted immense psychological distress upon the artist.

When public backlash mounted and digital sleuths began tracking the leaks, the perpetrator attempted to evade accountability. According to the agency, the individual resorted to flimsy excuses—claiming alternately that the calls were “work-related” or that their account had been “hacked”—before hastily deleting their social media profiles in an attempt to cover their tracks.

BELIFT LAB’s Swift Legal Response and Telecom Cooperation

Recognizing the grave nature of the offense, BELIFT LAB bypassed initial warnings and moved straight to punitive measures. The agency formally filed a criminal complaint with law enforcement authorities, citing deliberate malicious intent, severe psychological harm, and the illegal acquisition and distribution of private data.

In addition to the police report, the label took aggressive auxiliary steps:

  • Telecommunications Inquiries: BELIFT LAB submitted official cooperation requests to South Korea’s three major telecommunications providers to trace and unmask the digital footprints of the offender.
  • Zero-Tolerance Enforcement: The label reiterated its unwavering policy against stalkers, privacy invaders, and unauthorized information brokers, stating that even first-time offenders will face severe penalties without leniency.

The Vital Role of ENGENE Fandom Reporting

BELIFT LAB made a point to publicly acknowledge the global fanbase, ENGENE, for their active vigilance. Throughout the evidence-gathering phase, fans utilized the HYBE Artist Rights Protection portal (protect.hybecorp.com) to submit timestamped archives, screenshots, and screen recordings of the leaked audio clips.

“The reports submitted by fans throughout the process of filing this criminal complaint have been of great help,” BELIFT LAB shared in their closing statement. The agency urged fans to continue utilizing the unified portal for any future infractions, emphasizing that community-backed digital monitoring remains an essential shield for artists operating on a global scale.
