Early Life and Background
Yangyang was born on October 10, 2000, in New Taipei City, Taiwan. At 11, he moved with his family to Düsseldorf, Germany, where he attended the International School on the Rhine, and his family reportedly still lives there.
That upbringing left him with an unusual mix of languages: he speaks Mandarin, English, German, and Korean, along with a little Spanish.
His K-pop story began when he saw an advertisement for the SM Global Audition while living in Germany. He flew back to Taipei to take part in the audition in February 2016 and passed, becoming a trainee. On July 17, 2018, he was introduced as a member of SM Rookies, alongside Hendery and Xiaojun.
Career Highlights
Debut in WayV On December 31, 2018, SM announced that Hendery, Xiaojun, and Yangyang would join Kun, Winwin, Ten, and Lucas as the seven members of WayV, and the group debuted on January 17, 2019, with the digital EP The Vision.
As the maknae and a main rapper and dancer, Yangyang brought a youthful, high-energy style to the group’s stage. In October 2020, he also took part in the NCT 2020 project, joining NCT’s wider rotation.
Writing and the TEN&YANGYANG Duo Yangyang and Hendery wrote lyrics for the first time on the WayV songs “King of Hearts” and “We Go Nanana,” an early sign of his interest in songwriting.
In August 2021, he debuted in the group’s second sub-unit, WayV-TEN&YANGYANG, with the hip-hop single “Low Low.” He has also appeared as a mentor alongside Ten on the idol audition show Universe League, giving younger trainees a peek at his experience.
Touring and Recent Releases In 2026, WayV appeared at SummerStage in New York’s Central Park on August 2 and released its eighth mini album, Vision Wings, on August 10.
The title track blends hip-hop with traditional Chinese musical elements. WayV opened its third tour, BORN THIS Way, at KBS Arena in Seoul on September 12 and 13, with further dates across Asia, including Yokohama and Chengdu.
WayV as a Five-Member Group WayV has now been through two lineup changes. Lucas left in May 2023, and Winwin concluded his NCT activities in July 2026. The group is currently Kun, Ten, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang, and the BORN THIS Way tour announcement named Kun, Xiaojun, Hendery, and Yangyang as participants.
Personality and Public Image
Yangyang is known as energetic, sweet, and outgoing, with an easygoing sense of humor and an athletic streak. He mixes sharp visuals with a playful, confident personality, and he is often the one who brings the group’s livelier moments in variety content.
Having grown up between Taiwan and Germany before moving again to Korea to train, he is comfortable switching languages and cultural contexts, a skill that suits a group whose fans come from Greater China, Korea, Japan, and the West.
As the youngest member of a group that has changed shape twice since its 2019 debut, he has also moved from being the new kid among four preexisting NCT members to one of the five voices carrying WayV into its latest era, and his mentoring role on Universe League showed how far that journey has come.
He is also a sports fan. He played basketball growing up, fan-wiki profiles list Damian Lillard as his favorite NBA player, and he has a scar from a basketball injury. In a 2026 InStyle video, WayV’s members mentioned his Formula 1 obsession, and he has said that he once dreamed of becoming a racer because of Michael Schumacher.
